This is another flower we saw on the road today. Can you find out what the name of this flower is Jake? I hear you have been identifying plants this week.
Brantley Lake State Park near Carlsbad, NM off of highway 285. Can you find it on the map Jake?
In Carlsbad Caverns. We took a 2 mile self guided tour today. We have more pictures on postcards.

The first flower is called Devil's tongue. It can also be called prickly pear.

In order to get to Texas you could keep going down the 285 or you could turn off the 285 and go down 62/180 and head southwest to Guadalupe Mountains National Park. If you wanted to go east you would still head on the 62/180 and go through Hobbs, New Mexico.
I'd recommend that you keep going down Highway 285 through Pecos and then keep going until you reach Fort Stockton and hen continue heading east on Highway 10 all the way to San Antonio.
